Funding Pips Spread Study: Traders Report Spreads as Wide as Their Stop Loss

Funding Pips provides the above public investor login so traders can check spreads directly on MetaTrader 5. This creates an impression of pricing transparency.

However, based on our study and feedback from several traders, there are concerns about higher spreads during normal market conditions.

Spreads Reported as Wide as Stop Loss

Some traders report that spreads have expanded to levels close to their stop-loss size.

For example:

  • Scalpers using 5 to 8 pip stop losses reported spreads reaching similar levels.
  • Entry costs consumed a large portion of the planned risk.
  • In calm sessions without major news, spreads were still elevated.

When the spread becomes as wide as the stop loss, the trade structure stops making sense. The risk to reward ratio becomes distorted, and the strategy loses its edge.

Why This Is a Problem for Scalpers

Scalping depends on:

  • Tight spreads
  • Low transaction cost
  • Stable pricing

If spreads remain wide even without volatility, short-term strategies become difficult to execute profitably.

Swing traders may tolerate slightly higher spreads. Scalpers usually cannot.

Investor Account vs Real Trading Conditions

The public account 11018225 allows traders to view live bid and ask prices. It does not show:

  • Slippage
  • Execution delays
  • Internal account group differences

If live trading accounts operate under different pricing conditions, the investor account may not fully reflect the real experience.

Final Thoughts

Spread widening during major news is normal. The concern here is elevated spreads during stable market hours.

If spreads approach stop-loss size, many short-term strategies become ineffective. Traders should monitor spreads carefully and compare conditions during different sessions before committing to a trading model.

Clear and consistent pricing is essential for any trader relying on tight risk management.

Iโ€™ve been trading for over 5 years, mainly across Indian markets, futures, forex, crypto, and CFDs. Over the years, Iโ€™ve traded with a lot of different brokers and prop firms and spent a huge amount of time testing their rules, platforms, pricing, drawdown models, payout systems, and trading conditions.

Iโ€™ve been through plenty of failed prop firm challenges myself before eventually figuring out what works for me. That experience has given me a pretty practical understanding of what traders actually deal with when choosing a prop firm or trading platform.

Outside of trading, I work with financial content, SEO, and WordPress. Iโ€™ve built websites and tools around trading and finance, tested a wide range of trading tools, and even modified Pine Script indicators on TradingView as a hobby.

I write about prop firms, brokers, crypto platforms, and trading tools with a focus on the things that actually matter to traders, including rules, costs, payouts, and the overall trading experience.
