From £250 of birthday money to running two prop firms
Bainton’s story starts younger than almost anyone else running a prop firm. At 15, growing up in Birmingham, he put £250 of birthday money into an online trading course and got hooked on price action, risk management, and trading psychology. That’s not a detail he glosses over — he brings it up regularly, including in a birthday post reflecting on how a random purchase as a teenager ended up shaping his career.
He kept trading through his teens and by 18 had launched Blue Guardian out of his bedroom, aiming to give traders access to capital without the barrier of needing large amounts of their own money first. The company now operates as Iconic Exchange FZCO out of Dubai and runs 1-Step, 2-Step, 3-Step, and Instant Funding programs across forex, indices, commodities, and crypto. Bainton also owns Aqua Funded, a second prop firm under the same umbrella.
Where Blue Guardian stands now
Blue Guardian has paid out more than $32 million to traders across 170+ countries since launch. It’s picked up name recognition outside the trading world too — the firm sponsors Birmingham City FC (Bainton’s hometown club) as official FX partner and has backed boxer Chris Eubank Jr., moves that put Blue Guardian’s name in front of an audience well beyond prop trading forums.
Bainton talks openly about being one of the more connected owners in the industry, and he’s used that position to speak publicly on regulatory issues that hit the whole space — like when he went on the Trading Nut podcast to discuss the fallout after My Forex Funds got frozen by regulators, breaking down what that meant for other prop firms watching nervously from the sidelines.
Where he’s active online
X is where Bainton shows up most, posting as @seanbaint — company updates, milestone posts, personal reflections on the business, and industry commentary. He’s also on Instagram under his own name, though it’s a smaller following than his X account and less frequently updated. Beyond that, Blue Guardian itself runs an active presence across Discord, YouTube, and Telegram, and Bainton periodically appears as a guest on prop-firm and trading podcasts to talk industry news rather than just promote the company.
If you want to follow him directly rather than the brand, X is the one to check.
