Topstep has loosened the consistency rule on its Trading Combine. The best-day threshold has moved from 50% to 55% of your Profit Target.
What Actually Changed
The rule itself works the same way it always has. Your single best trading day is measured against your Profit Target, and if it goes over the threshold, your Profit Target increases. It doesn’t fail your Combine. You just need more total profit before you pass, recalculated as your best day divided by 0.55 instead of 0.50.
One thing to be aware of if you go looking for this yourself: Topstep’s plan pages reflect the new 55% figure, but the help center articles still show the old 50% number at the time of writing. That’s a documentation lag, not a contradiction. If you see 50% in an FAQ, check the plan page for your account size.
This only affects the Trading Combine stage. The Express Funded Account’s separate 40% Consistency payout path is unchanged, and the Standard payout path and Live Funded Account still carry no consistency percentage at all.
Why This Matters
Five percentage points sounds minor, and mechanically it is, but it lands at the stage where most traders actually get stuck. Take a $50K account with a $3,000 Profit Target. Under the old 50% rule, a $1,500 best day was already at the line. Under 55%, that same $1,500 day only needs $2,727 in total profit to stay clear. That’s a small but real buffer if you trade in bursts rather than steady daily increments.
It also fits a pattern. Topstep has been shipping limited-run Labs drops all year, cycling through a $25K Static Combine, a $250K Freedom Combine, a $3K Challenge, and a $1.5K Challenge. The firm has been actively experimenting with its evaluation terms rather than leaving them fixed.
Our Take
Loosening a Combine rule that never actually fails your account is a low-risk move for Topstep. It makes the evaluation feel more forgiving without touching anything that affects payout risk once you’re funded. If you were bumping against the old 50% line, this genuinely helps. It’s a sensible tweak, not a sign of anything bigger shifting at Topstep.
