BluSky Trading Rules Explained: Consistency, Drawdowns, and the Buffer Zone

BluSky Trading runs four distinct products - Launch, Propel, Orbit, and Instant Funding - each with its own pricing model and rules. The core mechanics below apply across the lineup, with per-product differences called out where they matter.

Consistency Rule: How It's Actually Calculated

BluSky's consistency rule only counts profitable days - losing days are excluded from the calculation entirely. The rule: your single largest profitable day can't exceed a set percentage of the sum of every profitable day combined.

ProductConsistencyApplies To
Launch50% (Evaluation), 34% (Buffer Zone)Both phases before Sim Funded - none once funded
Propel34% (most sizes), 21% on the $300K sizeBoth Evaluation and Buffer Zone - none once funded
OrbitNone during Evaluation, 40% once fundedFunded stage only - the reverse of Launch and Propel
Instant Funding21% (both plans)Ongoing, from the first trade - resets never apply since there's no evaluation

Orbit is the outlier: it has zero restrictions while you're evaluating (which is what lets it be passed in a single day), then applies its only consistency check after you're funded.

Drawdown Types

BluSky uses both trailing and static drawdowns depending on the size and product - check each plan's page for its specific type. Trailing drawdowns follow your account's daily closed profit up and lock permanently once your balance clears a set threshold (typically your starting balance plus the drawdown amount). Static drawdowns stay fixed at their original dollar level throughout, never adjusting in your favor. One plan (Instant Sim Funded $50K) uses an intraday trailing drawdown, which follows your live balance during the session rather than only at end-of-day - a meaningfully tighter mechanic than the EOD version used everywhere else.

Buffer Zone (Launch & Propel Only)

After passing the Evaluation on a Launch or Propel plan, you don't go straight to Sim Funded - you enter a Buffer Zone first. This is a second, smaller profit target with its own (usually lower) consistency requirement. Failing the Buffer Zone only resets that stage - your passed Evaluation stays valid, so you're not starting completely over. Clear the buffer and your Sim Funded account starts at that buffer amount as its balance.

Automated Trading & Bots

BluSky explicitly welcomes automated trading - full bot trading is allowed during the evaluation and on funded accounts alike, which is more permissive than most prop firms. Supported automation routes include Pine Script strategies via TradingView (connected through Tradovate) and NinjaScript via NinjaTrader (free license included). Automated strategies still have to comply with the account's normal risk management rules - the drawdown and consistency requirements don't relax just because a bot is placing the trades.

Platforms

BluSky supports 10+ trading platforms, more than most firms in this space: TradingView (via Tradovate), Tradovate, MotiveWave, R|Trader Pro, NinjaTrader, Sierra Chart, Quantower, Jigsaw, ATAS, Bookmap, and Volumetrica. DeepCharts and Tickblaze are also listed as supported at checkout. NinjaTrader comes with a free license included.

The Path to Live Brokerage

Every BluSky evaluation product (Launch, Propel, Orbit) is built around an eventual "Live Brokerage" stage - once your total profit clears $10,000 on Launch or Propel, you're reviewed for a transition to trading real capital with the payout caps removed entirely. This pathway is one of BluSky's most-cited differentiators in trader reviews - it's framed as the actual end goal, not funded Sim trading itself.

Resets

Reset pricing is tiered and increases the more times you use it - typically starting around $250 for a Buffer Zone reset and climbing in $50 steps every few resets. Orbit resets are cheaper in absolute terms but don't extend your account's 30-day evaluation window - that clock runs from your original purchase date regardless of how many times you reset. Instant Funding plans have no reset option at all - a breach there means buying a new account.

What We Don't Have Confirmed Yet

BluSky doesn't have a single consolidated rules FAQ the way some other firms do, so we don't have confirmed details yet on: hedging policy, specific prohibited trading strategies beyond the general risk-management language in each plan's terms, the full tradable instrument list with commissions, or exact news-trading/weekend-holding restrictions per product. We'd rather leave this flagged than guess - let us know if you have BluSky's own documentation on these.
