Lucid Trading Rules Explained: Consistency, Daily Loss Limits, Trading Hours, and Prohibited Strategies
Lucid Trading runs three account types on the site today — LucidPro, LucidFlex, and LucidDaily — plus LucidDirect, LucidBlack, and LucidMaxx, which exist but aren't covered here yet. All three current models trade CME, CBOT, COMEX, and NYMEX futures on an end-of-day trailing drawdown, with no hard breach rules on the fixed drawdown - only the Max Loss Limit and Daily Loss Limit (where applicable) can end an account.
Trading Hours
LucidPro, LucidFlex, and LucidDirect: all positions must be closed by 4:45 PM EST, Monday through Friday. Anything still open gets automatically closed by Lucid at that time — but holding past the cutoff is not a failed account, just an auto-close. Trading resumes at 6:00 PM EST, Sunday through Thursday. On market holidays with altered closing times, positions must close before the market's actual close, regardless of the usual 4:45 PM cutoff.
LucidDaily: trading red-folder (high-impact) news is a hard breach on this model specifically — see the News Trading section below.
Consistency Rule by Model
| Model | Consistency Rule | Applies To |
|---|---|---|
| LucidPro | 40% | Funded stage only — no consistency rule during the evaluation |
| LucidFlex | 50% (with a small built-in cushion) | Evaluation only — no consistency rule once funded |
| LucidDaily | 50% (with a small built-in cushion) | Evaluation only — no consistency rule once funded |
LucidPro flips the usual order: it's the only model with zero restrictions during the evaluation but a real consistency check once you're funded. LucidFlex and LucidDaily do the opposite — consistency matters to pass, then disappears completely once funded.
Daily Loss Limit & the LucidScale Mechanic (LucidPro)
LucidPro lets you choose DLL On (fixed dollar cap, cheaper) or DLL Off (no daily cap, higher price) at checkout — locked in for the life of the account. If you pick DLL On, there's a twist once funded: the fixed DLL only applies while your balance stays below the account's Initial Trail Balance (starting balance + Max Loss Limit + $100). Cross that level, and the fixed DLL is replaced by the LucidScale DLL — 60% of your highest-ever end-of-day profit, a limit that only ratchets up, never down. Either way, the drawdown floor locks permanently once you clear that same trail level.
LucidFlex and LucidDaily also let you toggle a Daily Loss Limit at checkout, applied as a fixed dollar amount rather than the LucidScale mechanic.
News Trading
- Not allowed on LucidDaily — trading red-folder (high-impact) news on this model is a hard breach.
- Allowed on LucidFlex, LucidPro, and LucidDirect — you can enter or exit positions around scheduled or unscheduled news events without it counting as a breach.
- News-driven markets can move fast and trigger slippage or velocity-logic order behavior. Traders take full responsibility for execution outcomes during news events on the models where it's permitted.
Prohibited Trading Activity
Microscalping
Defined as capturing very small price movements with large size in extremely short windows — you're flagged if more than 50% of your profit comes from trades held 5 seconds or less. Genuine short-term scalping is fine as long as it reflects realistic execution rather than an attempt to exploit simulated fills. First flag triggers a manual review; confirmed bad-faith activity gets a written warning, and continued violations mean forfeited profits and a permanent restriction.
Hedging
Using multiple accounts (your own, someone else's, or across different firms) to take opposing positions on the same or correlated instruments is strictly prohibited — including going long and short the same contract in separate accounts, or hedging correlated assets like ES against NQ across accounts. You can go long one contract and short a different, uncorrelated one in the same account without issue. Detected hedging resets the involved accounts to the prior day's balance on first offense; repeated offenses breach all involved accounts and can mean a permanent restriction.
High-Frequency Trading
Algorithm-driven strategies submitting a high volume of trades in seconds or milliseconds are banned outright — first offense gets a written warning, repeated offenses mean forfeited HFT profits, account closure, and a permanent restriction.
What's Explicitly Allowed
- DCA / scaling into positions — no limits on entry method. Martingaling (continuously adding to a losing position hoping for a reversal) is discouraged as risky, though not banned outright.
- Genuine scalping — short-term trades that reflect realistic market execution, as long as they stay within the microscalping threshold above.
- Automated trading systems and trade copiers — fully permitted, but traders are responsible for any bugs or unintended behavior from their own software.
- Flipping — quick in-and-out trades purely to satisfy a minimum trading day requirement are allowed and not restricted.
Inactivity Policy
There's no requirement to trade daily or weekly, but an account with no trade producing at least a net $1 profit or loss within 30 calendar days is deemed abandoned and permanently deleted. Breached accounts (Max Loss Limit exceeded) stay eligible for a paid reset for 30 days before they're automatically deleted — traders can also manually delete a breached account anytime before that window closes.
Maximum Number of Accounts
| Account Type | Limit |
|---|---|
| Evaluation accounts | Up to 10 active per household/family |
| Funded accounts | Up to 5 active per household/family (all funded account types combined) |
| LucidLive accounts | Up to 5 active per household/family |
Evaluation and funded accounts share a combined cap of 10 — 5 evaluations and 5 funded is the max split, and you can keep evaluation accounts "in reserve" (and still trade them) while holding funded accounts elsewhere.
Restricted Countries
Lucid Trading is not available to citizens or residents of a long list of countries, including (among others) Russia, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Syria, Pakistan, Nigeria, Turkey, Ukraine, and most of Sub-Saharan Africa and several Caribbean nations. Check the full restricted country list before purchasing if you're unsure.
